I went for a run around Hamilton Park last Saturday because it felt like the right thing to do on the first really nice weekend of this pandemic. Liberty State Park had just reopened the day before, but I'd heard there was way too much car and foot traffic there to want to go. Running can take your mind off of things, and after being cooped up inside for so long, it felt even better than normal on a warm Spring day. I think when we look back on this unprecedented time, we'll remember coping however we could to get through something we'd never had to deal with before. Whether that's video calls with friends you can't hug in real life, running, making bread, or taking people's portraits on a street corner to document it all, we're all getting through this in our own way.<br />

I feel like quarantine has given people the empathy that the world was needing. We have to have more grace in the world and hopefully after this, we can remember that humility is important.

  • That evening i was picking up my sons dinner. He wanted spaghetti and meatballs.<br />
<br />
His name is Troy. Before this quarantine i would always pick him up from daycare. That’ll be our time to talk. I’ll ask about what he learned. What he did. Just his day overall. The last day we had that discussion was on march 16th. Hes been at home with his mom since then. I miss those moments. And now they said the school year’s over. It saddens me that he might not have his pre-k graduation. <br />
<br />
I was also looking forward to him playing tee-ball. It wouldve been his first year playing. Season was supposed to start april 18th. <br />
Thats what i miss. The times me and my son would have. But i do understand we need to do this. <br />
<br />
Thanks for the opportunity.<br />

  • The thing with this pandemic is that we know how and when it all started, but nobody knows how and when it is finally going to end. We know it is going to be slow. And painful. There are good days, when you can smile and be optimistic about the future, and bad days, when you just feel washed out. Eventually, this will end.

  • They look like they’re meant to be together. <br />
Here’s Aileen Salerno’s #quarantinetake on this time:<br />
<br />
When the Coronavirus epidemic is over, there will be some who will look back and be thankful that they made it through safely, some who enjoyed the extra time with family and friends, and some who rejoiced about this respite from consumerism. <br />
And then there will be some who did what they did before the Coronavirus; post divisive comments that advertise how they feel about President Trump, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, our country's failings or some other person or policy. Some who feel constant criticism is beneficial or rightful.<br />
<br />
Here's the thing you need to remember: those of you who use social media as an echo chamber or to solidify your perspective by collecting "likes" or "bandwagon comments" from others equally as negative as you are not changing minds. And, if we turned back the clock to the days before social media, it was okay if people didn't share your opinion.<br />
<br />
I fear future generations, and there are already signs of this, will be utterly intolerant of their neighbor's personal, social, and political views. And depending on the topic will demand, along with their like-minded friends, that opposing opinions be extinguished. We may even see people who need healing spaces, puppies and kittens, therapy dogs, free back massages, coloring books, Legos, bubbles, hot chocolates, etc. to deal with adverse outcomes. <br />
It would have been nice if being quarantined ushered in a small wave of tolerance or kindness.<br />
The future is scary!

  • Quarantine take, @miss_shimmyshamz: Quarantine time has certainly tested all of us. <br />
We now have lots of time to reflect for sure & reconnect with ourselves. Personally, I certainly evaluated what’s important in life & I realized we become so consumed with our fast-paced life that we take so much for granted. Quarantine forced us to slow it down! My hope is once this is all over, we remember to take the time to appreciate the things & people that mean the most to us in our lives & not to waste our time or energy on irrelevant things.

Now is a #tough #time for many #people. One thing that I’ve noticed though, is that a genuine sense #community and #compassion is at an all-time high - and on a #global scale, too. That gives me hope.

  • The only thing that I can thank COVID-19 and this quarantine for is the opportunity for self-reflection, and taking the time to slow down enough to evaluate exactly what I want for my life. <br />

This time has been one of deep self reflection and awakening - one that is personal but also seemingly (hopefully) a global phenomenon. Experiencing such a range of emotions during this isolation: sadness mixed with hope, agony in waiting and watching, anxiety and loneliness... but still I’ve discovered a joy that comes from really grounding down. I’ll never be the same after this, I don’t expect anyone else will be either, but I don’t think that has to be a bad thing. Sending loving energy to who ever needs it most! ❤️🌎 There will be rainbows after the storm, I promise.

During this time of quarantine, I’m doing some self-reflection and healing. I’m taking this opportunity to myself to do all the things I deny myself when I’m usually so consumed with work. Sleeping longer, taking more care of my body, meditating, learning new skills, and using my creativity to make art. This time has been such a positive experience in getting to know myself more and feel grateful <br />

  • I've been spending a lot of time at home and home is good. Coming out to hear the music tonight is the first time in a long time that I've been around so many people. It's a little disconcerting. Leaving this gathering early to watch a Sun Ra concert. Pre-quarantine I could be anywhere scooting about in my chair in New York or around Jersey City.

I’ve been thinking about the level of privilege associated with social distancing... thinking of the high school kids I used to work with in Brooklyn, many of whom would stay at the after school program till 6pm every day, simply because the school was a safer place than their homes. Thinking how social distancing is only possible if you have a clean water supply in your home, and how for so many people the circumstances of their lives do not allow them to participate the luxury of social distancing... I guess just trying to stay focused on how comparatively easy this is for some of us, so trying not to complain...

If quarantine has taught me anything, it’s to be thankful. This horrific disease has taken so many. On Memorial Day, I wear the flag to remember all of the brave souls who fight and who have fought for our country, and the many more who are fighting for their lives. I have so very much to be thankful for. I send love and light to those who may be in the darkness. We will get through this together.

  • Here are my thoughts: "While the current climate has afforded me the opportunity to slow down and rest, I realize that it's an extremely stressful and sorrowful time for many others. The pandemic has shone a bright light on inequality due to the separation of race and class and I hope a larger conversation is held in an effort to remedy this."<br />
