.A pilgrimage to the Santa Muerte altar at the neighborhood of Mexico city named Tepito.Mexico, Mexico City.Friday, October 1.2010..Santa Muerte (Saint Death) has been regarded as a religious cult by the Catholic Church even though some churches worship Santa Murte. The cult has been closely linked to the lower classes, crime, drugs and prostitution. The Mexican authority found many shrines built for Santa Muerte in prominent drug lords mansions. The religion is popular in poor, crime ridden neighborhoods, such as Tepito in Mexico City. The largest of the shrines in Tepito built for Santa Muerte is on Alfareria Street. On the first day of each month, worshippers come out to pray to the skeleton that the followers refer to as La Flaca (the skinny one) and La Nina Blanca (the white girl).
